One Last Jedi Feature That Daisy Ridley Wishes Star Wars Fans Didn't See Before The Film

Daisy Ridley Rey The Last Jedi Lightsaber

With the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi approaching, many fans have started to avoid trailers to keep the theatrical experience as fresh as possible. After all, we've seen far too many movies that have spoiled significant plot elements in the marketing material -- such as Doomsday's presence in last year's Batman v Superman. It seems that this is even something that concerns Daisy Ridley, as the actress recently explained to us during The Last Jedi's Los Angeles press junket that the behind-the-scenes footage of her fight-scene training should've been held until after release to avoid showing the frustration of filming. The actress told me:

It was interesting, because watching the behind-the-scenes fighting thing, the fight scenes are really, really cool. I think it's the one thing that I'm like, because you can just physically, it's emotionally hard to do judge, to gauge when you're in something. But physically, I worked really hard, and so looking at the fights I'm really happy with how it turned out. So watching the featurette, it was funny because you forget the frustration. And I think that's a good thing. But it's also weird because just before the film comes out, to see the frustration, I'm like... I don't know if I would've preferred that afterwards, or whether it's good now, so that was on odd thing.

The Last Jedi has leaned heavily on behind-the-scenes footage as a significant element of its marketing, which is likely due to a combination of it being the 40th anniversary of Star Wars this year, as well as a means of remembrance for the late Carrie Fisher. Though the tactic has helped keep story-specific spoilers at bay, Daisy Ridley seems to think that the in-depth look at her fight scenes (and her frustration with the process of getting them right) could've served the film better as a post-release featurette once people had properly seen the movie.

Daisy Ridley's issue doesn't seem to be the fact that any of these featurettes have given away vital plot details. Instead, it's more a matter of taking away from the magic of a given scene when a member of the audience already knows how much hard work went into it. There's definitely credence to both sides of that argument, but it definitely has us excited to see all of her hard work pay off in those battle sequences when The Last Jedi finally premieres.

Don't take my word for it. Check out a clip from my interview with Daisy Ridley below to hear what the actress had to say about her fight scene training.

Something that shouldn't get lost in Daisy Ridley's remarks about The Last Jedi is how impressed she feels with her work on the film's fight scenes. In The Force Awakens, Rey didn't get her hands dirty in too many fights until the showdown with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) on Starkiller Base. Now it sounds like her character will become quite a bit more formidable than the scrappy junker seen in the last film. Considering the rumors that she will face off against several Knights of Ren at once in The Last Jedi, she will likely need all of the skill that she can get from her time with Luke (Mark Hamill).

Audiences will get to see all of Daisy Ridley's badass fighting skills when Star Wars: The Last Jedi finally debuts in theaters on December 15.
