Deadpool Director Working On Another Solo X-Men Movie At Fox

Kitty Prude

There's a lot of mystery in the X-Men universe at the moment. As we slide into 2018, we know that we have three movies in the X-Men universe to look forward to -- two traditional movies, and one Deadpool sequel. But we don't know what's happening beyond that, especially as the possibility of the Fox and Disney merger looms large. That will take years, of course, so that's not slowing down the creative side, as we're now hearing that a Kitty Pryde solo movie might be in the works, and from Deadpool director Tim Miller.

Collider has the news, saying that sources have confirmed to them that Tim Miller is actively developing a Kitty Pryde movie at Fox, not willing to wait around to see if the X-Men will be brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and so choosing which projects that they want to do on their own -- may the chips fall where they may. The site confirms that this is in development but not quiet greenlit, so the details on it are scarce, and just solid enough for X-Men fans to begin getting excited.

Kitty Pryde was the youngest person to join the X-Men (in the comic books). Her powers allow her to phase through objects and people, and she can also levitate. Over the years, Marvel transitioned Kitty into different roles, and even signed her up for a British version of the team called Excalibur (joined by Nightcrawler), so these are avenues that Fox might go down in the future.

This would not be the first time that Kitty Pryde is being realized on the big screen. Ellen Page first brough the character to life in Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand, and she resumed the role in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past -- where she was integral to sending Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) back in time to prevent the creation of the Sentinel program.

But this news is exciting for so many different reasons. Tim Miller proved how comfortable he was in the X-Men universe with Deadpool, and though he didn't come back for the sequel, we'd trust handing him another X-Men movie in a heartbeat. Also, the X-Men franchise at Fox has a plethora of strong female characters on which to build, and this is a shift in that direction, as Miller might be able to build on momentum created by the Jean Grey-led story in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. If Fox moves forward with an X-23 spinoff and a Kitty Pryde solo movie, the shift toward gender equality in the superhero genre would be noticeable at Fox.

Stay tuned for more information on the solo Kitty Pryde movie as we get it. And bookmark our Upcoming X-Men Movies guide to stay up to date on other movies in this saga.
