Where Valkyrie Might Be During Avengers: Infinity War, According To Tessa Thompson

Valkyrie in Ragnarok

Even the most casual movie fans know that something major is happening this weekend. After 10 years and 18 blockbusters, Avengers: Infinity War finally arrived in theaters to end the shared universe as we know it. The Russo Brothers had a difficult task in balancing the film's large ensemble cast, and managed to give each Avenger and Guardian a chance to shine. But there are a few characters who never popped up, including Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie. Valkyrie was last seen on the Asgardian ship that was eventually found by Thanos and his Black Order, but she was never seen during those opening sequences. Thompson was recently asked where TF Valkyrie (and Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye) might have been during the movie, and she responded:

Although Valkyrie was never mentioned or seen during Thanos' horrifying attack on the surviving Asgardians, Tessa Thompson seems to have a good sense of humor about the potential plot hole. Valkyrie loves the sauce, so perhaps that's how she managed to avoid the Mad Titan. After all, she probably would have ended up dead if she took him on herself.

While Tessa Thompson's tweet is hilarious, it's certainly strange that Valkyrie never popped up in Infinity War's opening sequence. While she was a newcomer in Thor: Ragnarok, she quickly became a fan favorite due to her hidden vulnerability, general badassery, and love of boozing it up; there's just something about plucky alcoholics that the MCU loves. But she wasn't seen fighting Thanos alongside Loki, Hulk, and Thor; she and Korg were simply not present, and it's unclear if they managed to survive Thanos' attack on the ship.

Then again, you can't fault the Russo Brothers for focusing the Asgard scenes mostly on Thor and Loki. Adding two more supporting characters simply weighs the scene down, and could possibly ruin the emotional impact of Loki's seemingly final scene in the MCU. Fans and Thor watched in horror as Thanos choked the life out of the God of Mischief, after he attempted to save the Galaxy by assassinating the Mad Titan himself. It was a gut punch that showed Infinity War wasn't playing around, and it wouldn't be the first devastating character death.

We'll just have to wait and see if Valkyrie ends up popping up in Avengers 4. The Russos have far less characters to juggle after the film's wild cliffhanger, so it might be the perfect time to bring Tessa Thompson's character back into the fold. That, or make the all-female Marvel movie the actress has been campaigning for.

Avengers: Infinity War is in theaters now. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
