Apparently There’s A Howard The Duck Easter Egg In Spider-Man: Homecoming

In the world of easter egg hunts, the comic book film is sometimes where the most elusive specimens decide to hang their hat. We’ve seen it before, especially in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has teased a couple of hidden gems that are uber hard to find.

But when Spider-Man: Far From Home director Jon Watts was asked, via a fan submitted question, about whether or not there were any easter eggs still undiscovered within Spider-Man: Homecoming, he unveiled the following bombshell that sent a member of his latest cast reeling:

It’s like almost so obscure that I don’t even know if anyone could ever find it, but there’s a Howard the Duck reference. It’s a very small, small Easter egg hidden in tall grass.

For quick reference, Spider-Man: Homecoming came out on July 7, 2017; and it’s not like this was an indie hit, as the film racked up $880.2 million in its worldwide theatrical run. And yet somehow, some way, with fans revisiting the film multiple times since its debut, no one has found this one particular easter egg paying tribute to Howard The Duck.

And yes, we know you’re interested to hear who from the Spider-Man: Far From Home cast was most taken aback by this occurrence. It was none other than Quentin Beck/Mysterio himself, Jake Gyllenhaal, who looked the most surprised when this news dropped. It happened towards the end the group Q&A that was being held as part of Sony’s promotional efforts for Spider-Man: Far From Home, for anyone who wants to see this moment happen in real time.

Outside of this Easter egg, Howard the Duck has made three official appearances in the MCU. He briefly appeared in the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies, voiced by Seth Green, and he also made a silent cameo in Avengers: Endgame.

Of course, now the real questions are, what is this Howard The Duck easter egg, and will anyone spot it in time for Spider-Man: Far From Home’s imminent debut. Much like the world did in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, you can bet Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are starting to break out their copies of Spider-Man: Homecoming, in hopes of being one of the first fans to spot it.

Your mind will be blown too, when Spider-Man: Far From Home opens in theaters on July 2.
