Star Wars is one of the most popular franchises of all time, and Disney has consistently been releasing exciting new content. With The Rise of Skywalker in the rearview, the next time the galaxy far, far away will return to theaters is Patty Jenkins’ developing Rogue Squadron movie. And the Wonder Woman director’s latest update is sure to please fans.

Patty Jenkins has had a long and successful career, and moviegoers are thrilled to see her dive into Star Wars with Rogue Squadron. She should presumably have some freedom with the story, especially since the nine-film Skywalker Saga has come to an end. Jenkins was recently asked about that mysterious project, saying:

It’s going amazing. I had been on it already for six months before I even announced that, so we’re pretty deep into it. We’re finishing a script, crewing up, and it’s all going wonderful. I’m so excited about the story and excited that we’re the next chapter of Star Wars, which is such a responsibility and such an opportunity to really start some new things. It’s really exciting in that way.

Well, that’s certainly exciting. It looks like development for Rogue Squadron is going swimmingly, with Patty Jenkins wrapping up the story and assembling the crew. So as soon as said script is polished, development will hopefully move to light speed with some highly anticipated casting updates.

Patty Jenkins’ comments to THR will no doubt help to satiate the generations of Star Wars fans as Rogue Squadron continues coming together. While Star Wars will continue expanding thanks to shows on Disney+ like The Mandalorian and The Bad Batch, moviegoers are eager for any information regarding the property’s big screen future.

As Patty Jenkins mentions, Rogue Squadron has the ability to be a new start for the Star Wars franchise. While the sequel trilogy was released, the property experimented here and there with standalone movies like Rogue One and Solo. But now that the main narrative has wrapped up, the time has come for the galaxy far, far away to break new ground.

Since Star Wars’ security is notoriously tight, the details of Rogue Squadron’s story remain a mystery for the time being. Considering Patty Jenkins’ resume and experience working with genre and big concepts, she seems like a killer choice to bring the fans into this new era.

Of course, moviegoers are also excited to see Patty Jenkins’ inevitable return to the DC Extended Universe with Wonder Woman 3. The acclaimed filmmaker has also expressed interest in an Amazon prequel, so it should be interesting to see how she balances responsibilities of both the DCEU and Star Wars.

Rogue Squadron doesn’t currently have a release date, although there are a number of live-action Star Wars shows coming to Disney+. In the meantime, check out the 2021 movie release dates to plan your next movie experience
