These Catfish Clips Won't Tell You What It Is

In a few weeks the world will be talking about The Social Network, a movie which defines the man who built Facebook. But before you see that, maybe you should see Catfish, a movie about the way his website has changed people’s lives.

Below we have four clips from Catfish and if you watch them they’ll lead you believe this heavily touted Sundance favorite is one thing. It is not that thing. The clips make the film look as though it’s a heavily affecting romance movie about two people who meet and fall in love over the internet. Apparently there’s a huge twist. Watch the clips, let them lure you in, then watch the movie’s full trailer which I’ve included at the end and let it completely rock your world. Here you go:

Ready? Now here’s the Catfish trailer… which… fair warning our own Katey Rich who saw the movie at Sundance recommends you shouldn’t watch at all. But as someone who hasn’t seen the movie, while those clips are interesting, without the trailer there’s no compelling reason to want to buy a ticket. So give it a shot:

What the fuck is going on? No one’s talking. Most of the reviews coming out of Sundance earlier this year have been effusive in their praise yet also deliberately vague and, we're probably better off this way. The trailer has already told us more than we need to know. I’ll see you in a theater on September 17th. I’m hooked.
