Zack Snyder Won't Shoot Anything Without His Wife

There are only three different kinds of spouses in the creative world. Those that have no interest in getting involved, those that want to help but get in the way and those that are unquantifiable assets. Unfortunately, most people have a largely negative perception of hands on spouses because of Yoko Ono’s assumed severing of The Beatles. This is possibly unfair to her but definitely unfair to the artistic community as a whole. 300 director Zack Snyder has worked particularly close with his wife for years, and for the first time, he’s admitted a severing of that partnership is a deal breaker on potential films.

According to The New York Times, Snyder and his wife Deborah Johnson see being separated as not only a hit to their relationship but also the quality of the final product. “I trust (her) taste and way of navigating the world,” he said, later breaking into a story about her calling bullshit on the editing for Dawn Of The Dead. Since tying the knot, they’ve worked together on 300, Watchmen, Legends Of The Guardians and this year’s Sucker Punch. She’ll once again serve as a producer on his upcoming Superman: Man Of Steel.

I can’t tell you how happy this story makes me. My girlfriend/ best friend has been my close writing partner for years. I need her to call bullshit when I ramble or betray grammar. It’s nice to know there are other duos out there kicking ass and taking names together.
