Slashtastic New Trailer For Takashi Miike's 13 Assassins

It’s really easy for a film about the samurai to be boring. Even master samurai film maker Akira Kurosawa’s Yojimbo falls victim to the period proving that even someone like him can make a movie that’s too slow for its own good. That does not seem to be the case with Takashi Miike’s 13 Assassins however.

A new trailer has appeared over at Apple and it is packed end to end with action and intrigue the likes of which you rarely see in a samurai film. The samurai are almost always portrayed as stoic heroes who only fight after great consideration of the situation. Miike’s samurai remain stoic, but are eager to “lay down their lives for a greater cause”--to kill a tyrannical man bringing chaos to their country.

This is a perfect trailer. There’s no voice over, there’s no title cards, it’s simply a badass soundtrack accompanied by 13 samurai laying waste to over 200 minions and loving every minute of it. You won’t see more ass kickery in a trailer any time soon. Check out the trailer below or in glorioud HD over at Apple, then if you can’t contain yourself go get the film on demand, or just wait until it hits theaters April 29th.
