We’re kind of excited about the upcoming redo of The Thing. Sure John Carpenter’s movie is a classic, but in Hollywood’s modern environment of retreads, this redo seems like it might have potential. No, I’m not just saying that because we visited the set last year. Eric went, I didn’t, which is sort of our way of keeping a dividing line between the perks and our opinions. I’m excited simply because it looks pretty good and so does the movie’s new official teaser poster, which we’ve got for you, right here:

Make sure you click on the poster above, for the high-res version. When you do that, pay close attention to the fingers on the left hand of that figure standing in the snow. What I like best about the poster is the way it instantly harkens back to the original, now iconic 1982 poster will still doing something completely different. Here’s the 1982 poster for The Thing, if you’re interested in a comparison:

Though there's an effort from the studio to position this as a prequel, they’re keeping the plot of the 1982 version, for the most part. The Thing is still about an otherwordly, shape-shifting creature set loose upon a remote, Antarctic scientific colony. This new version stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim), Joel Edgerton, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ulrich Thomsen, Eric Christian Olsen, and Trond Espen Seim. Look for it in theaters October 14th.
