Winona Ryder Joins The Cast Of The Iceman

Another very recognizable actor has joined the cast of the Ariel Vromen-directed film The Iceman. Set to join Chris Evans and Michael Shannon in the drama, which is based on a true story is Winona Ryder.

The Iceman is based on Anthony Bruno’s book The Iceman: The True Story of a Cold-Blooded Killer and follows the story of mafia hitman Richard “The Iceman” Kuklinski. The film’s cast includes Michael Shannon, Ray Liotta and David Schwimmer. Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) will play Kuklinski, while Chris Evans is also set to star, taking on the part of Robert Pronge (Kuklinski’s mentor assassin), which was originally set to be played by James Franco.

Deadline posted earlier today that Winona Ryder has joined the cast. She will be playing Kuklinski’s wife Deborah, and from the sound of it, her character has no idea her husband kills people for money. According to IndieWire, Ryder is replacing Maggie Gyllenhaal in the part.

Ryder’s likely to be more well known for her work in the ’80’s and ’90’s, including lead roles in Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands and Mermaids, but she’s appeared in a fairly steady stream of work in recent years. Among her recent credits were Black Swan and The Dilemma. Before that, she played a part in Star Trek.
