It was exciting to hear earlier this month that Owen Wilson was weighing a role opposite Tina Fey in Admission, a comedy in which Fey plays a college admissions counselor who falls for a 17-year-old applicant, but is also being wooed by a guy her own age. Wilson was up for the older love interest role, of course, but now he's bailed on the idea, leaving room for a possibly even better casting choice to come into play. According to The LA Times, Paul Rudd is now considering the role, though no formal deal has yet been struck.
The plot description as provided by the Times reads a little differently, revealing that Rudd's character would be someone Fey knew in high school but never got to know, and that Rudd has been thinking about her all this time. That sounds even more complicated than the initial love triangle we learned about, but also way more fun to watch these two actors spin out of control. It's kind of crazy that Rudd hasn't managed to guest star on 30 Rock yet, and as much as I'd still love to see him as some kind of down-home Kabletown executive, pairing him up with Fey in a romantic comedy this twisted sounds even better.
Before this manages to come together, we've got a lot of Rudd to look forward to this year-- he's got one of the few adult roles in The Perks of Being A Wallflower, and he's at the center of Judd Apatow's This Is 40, reviving his character from Knocked Up opposite Leslie Mann. Perks is set for an undetermined release date later this year, while This Is 40 is scheduled for December 21.
