Opening Scene Of The Dictator Has Obama Condemning General Aladeen

Though it's opening in just a few weeks, on May 16, Sacha Baron Cohen's The Dictator hasn't really made much of an impact in marketing lately-- what's the last thing you remember seeing after he showed up at the Oscars in character? But with the release date coming soon, new trailers and posters have emerged, and now the opening scene of the movie, which introduces us to his character Admiral General Aladeen, the dictator ruler of the fictional North African country, Wadiya. Take a look at the video below.

I like that this shows off mostly new footage and jokes, and the one scene that is repeated from the trailers-- the fake Olympics footrace, in which he shoots the rest of the competition-- continues to make me laugh every time. We know that Sacha Baron Cohen's comedy can be broad, but a lot of the best moments can play out really, really slowly, like when you watch the guy at the doctor's office process whether or not he has HIV. It's not the most earth-shattering joke, sure, but it is funny, and it gives me a lot of hope for some of the smaller, more cutting moments of humor that might come out of something as absurd as The Dictator.

But what do you guys think-- has The Dictator convinced you it's worth your time? Or will you be seeing Battleship that same weekend? Let us know your decision in the comments.
