Richard Gere Smolders In Trailer For Sundance Hit Arbitrage

We’ve been covering Nicholas Jarecki’s Arbitrage -- and Richard Gere’s mesmerizing performance in the drama – since it made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival. Now that Roadside Attractions has circled a September release date for the possible awards-bait feature, the promotional campaign can ramp up, starting with this new trailer. We have it below:

In the contemporary thriller, Gere plays Robert Miller, a crooked hedge fund magnate who makes one false move and must ally himself with an unlikely partner to save his skin. Arbitrage is the financial practice of buying stocks at a low cost and selling once they go high. It’s a high-risk, high-reward way of operating, and as you can see in the trailer above, when it backfires, it can be deadly.

This is Jarecki’s feature-film directorial debut, after helming a short titled The Weight and a documentary titled The Outsider. His film built serious buzz coming out of Sundance, with much of the impact swirling around Gere’s powerful turn. Expect Roadside to test the Oscar waters for its leading man, though we may see multiple campaigns form around the Arbitrage cast if the film gains any traction. Gere’s surrounded by heavy hitters, sharing scenes with Susan Sarandon, Tim Roth and indie darling Brit Marling. This is Gere’s show, though, and most will be grabbing tickets to see what he can bring to the screen. Arbitrage will be in theaters and available on iTunes beginning Sept. 14. Does this trailer make you interested in checking it out?
