Trailer For Animated Adventure Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1

Let's get real for a moment. For as many big movies that have already touched down this year from The Hunger Games to The Avengers, we all suspected The Dark Knight Rises would run away with the summer. I mean just look at what else is coming up. Action movies like The Expendables 2 and The Bourne Legacy have given the unbeatable Batman movie a wide berth because Nolan's Dark Knight Rises is such a force to be reckoned with. And fans can't get enough, with countless numbers already boasting online of having seen the film three times since its release 11 days ago. So it's as good a time as ever for DC to feed into this fan frenzy to favor the impending release of their animated movie Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1

Sure, it's in no way tied to Nolan's Gotham narrative, but this straight to DVD and Blu-ray epic does share some similarities with his gritty and brutal Batman trilogy. Take a look for yourself with the trailer below, courtesy of MTV:

Based on Frank Miller's chilling graphic novel, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 takes place in dystopian Gotham that hasn't had a Batman sighting in a decade. Lacking purpose and feeling restless, Bruce Wayne (voiced here by Robocop star Peter Weller) drowns his sorrows in fast cars and booze. But the rise of a vicious gang who call themselves The Mutants coupled with the return of Two-Face prompts Batman back into action, and he's not alone. A fiery teen girl named Carrie (Modern Family's Ariel Winter) sidles up as his new sidekick Robin, and is prepared to kick some serious ass and save the day...and Bruce Wayne.

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 will be available on Blu-ray Combo Pack & DVD and download on September 25th.
