Matt Damon Takes A Small Part In Terry Gilliam's The Zero Theorem

Matt Damon is getting ready to team up with director Terry Gilliam again and while his part won't be as significant as the one he had in 2005's The Brothers Grimm, he will at the very least get a chance to wear a wig.

The star recently attended a party for Ben Affleck's upcoming film Argo and while talking to Vulture he not only revealed that he is doing a tiny bit of reshoot work for Neill Blomkamp's upcoming sci-fi film Elysium, but that he will also be spending a few days on the set of Gilliam's new drama The Zero Theorem. In a bit of coincidence, Damon had to shave his head for the new round of Elysium shots, but has to keep it shaved while working on Gilliam's project. "I shaved it again this morning," he said when asked about his haircut. "There are two extra days of shooting that we have to do next week [on Elysium], and not to bore you with this, but I had to shave it because I have to do a wig fitting. I'm going to do three days with Terry Gilliam, and now that I have to shave my head, I need to do a wig for Terry's movie."

As for Zero Theorem, Damon's part may be small but apparently it's something he's enthusiastic to be a part of. Starting by thanking god that someone gave the director money for the project, Damon said that he took the time to start an email chain with Gilliam where they went back and forth about the part. "We had this whole conversation about what the character would look like, because the story takes place in the future, but he had a specific look that he wanted, but then I had to [points to shaved head], and I said, 'Terry, what should we do?' And he said, 'Actually, we can take advantage of the fact that your head is shaved. Why don't we change your hairline?' So he mocked up a picture and sent me a real receding hairline, with white spiked hair. 'We might as well take advantage of the fact that you're bald and really do something, present you in a way you've never been seen before.'"

For some reason all I can think about is Colin Farrell's horrific hairstyle in Horrible Bosses, and that actually gets me excited to see what Damon could do with a physical transformation of that matter.

The Zero Theorem, based on a script written by Pat Rushin, is about a computer hacker who wishes to learn the answer to the great question "why are we here?" but is constantly stopped by an Orwellian forced called Management. The cast also includes Christoph Waltz, Tilda Swinton and David Thewlis.
