Listen To Unreleased Portions Of Jonny Greenwood's Score For The Master

I'm not entirely sure how, but it would seem that New Year's Eve 2012, at least when it comes to movie news, it's all about remembering some of the best film soundtracks of the year.

It began earlier when I posted my top 10 list for the Best Movie Music Moments of 2012, and then, just a little while later, we found an awesome Django Unchained soundtrack commentary from writer/director Quentin Tarantino. And now The Weinstein Company is expanding their Oscar campaign for Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master by releasing previously unheard versions of Jonny Greenwood tracks from the film's score.

In total the studio has released nine songs, with two of them repeating twice, and while all of them eventually made it on to the final soundtrack, it's interesting to listen to the different versions. To listen to the music, just head over to The Weinstein Company's award site.

Greenwood, who is probably best known for being a member of the Grammy Award-winning band Radiohead, has been working as a film composer since writing the music for Simon Pummell's documentary Bodysong and previously worked with Anderson on 2007's There Will Be Blood (for which he earned a BAFTA nomination). Obviously the studio is trying to get his music for The Master noticed in the Oscar's Best Original Score category for this year, but do you think he should be up for the prize? They missed out on the Golden Globes, where Life of Pi, Argo, Anna Karenina, Cloud Atlas and Lincoln are all nominated, but that doesn't mean he doesn't still have a chance.
