Top Gun 3D Trailer Gives Us A Need For Speed

In less than a month Top Gun will return to theaters for its limited IMAX 3D engagement. This will be followed up by the release of a two-disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray 2D set, which hits shelves not long after Maverick flies back into theaters. A trailer promoting the film's return to theaters has arrived and it does a fine job of reminding us of some of the more iconic big screen moments in the film, which have the potential to look pretty great on the giant IMAX screen in 3D.

The new Top Gun trailer opens with one of the film's most memorable lines: "I feel the need - the need for speed." (High five!)

With the draw being IMAX and 3D, the trailer focuses on a lot of the great visual moments from the film and less on the plot. In case your memory's rusty, the 1986 film was directed by Tony Scott and stars Tom Cruise as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, a pilot who trains at the Navy's Fighter Weapons School alongside his wingman Goose (Anthony Edwards). His rival is Val Kilmer's Iceman. As the trailer reminds us, the film offers plenty of great flying scenes, some intense volleyball, rivalry, humor, danger (zone) and Tom Cruise on a motorcycle. There's also Tom Cruise serenading Kelly McGillis, for those in the market for a bit of romance next month. The film's release into theaters for its IMAX 3D engagement just so happens to take place during the week leading up to Valentine's Day (February 8 - 13).

As for the DVD/Blu-ray release, that's set for February 19. More information on that here.
