Beware The Mirror In New Evil Dead Clip

Horror fanatics know the mirror is a dangerous element in the genre, especially medicine cabinet mirrors. A hapless soon-to-be victim looks into the mirror, opens the cabinet, and when they close it— BOOM! There's something terrifying right behind them! Of course, Evil Dead fanatics know that a mirror was used to a very different end in Evil Dead 2. In what is my personal favorite moment of this gory and bonkers franchise, Ash tries to calm himself down in the mirror, telling his reflection he's fine. But then, his reflection reaches out at him and firmly declares, "We just cut up our girlfriend with a chainsaw! Does that sound fine?"

To silence the outrage from Evil Dead devotees over its remake, the filmmakers have been steadily releasing deranged trailers that reveal just how tonally different this movie is from its source, and this clip does that perfectly as well (I witnessed first-hand how well the gory footage could thrill a tough Comic Con crowd). The new Evil Dead is written and directed by Fede Alvarez, a filmmaker handpicked by the franchise's creator Sam Raimi. The story of five friends who travel to a remote cabin in the woods and accidentally summon evil forces gets a fresh face with a cast that includes Jane Levy, Shiloh Fernandez, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jessica Lucas, and Elizabeth Blackmore.

It just made its debut at SXSW, where Eric saw it and declared, "Backed by great performances by a young cast, and a seemingly unending number of high-tension, disturbingly gory horror sequences, the new movie is the definition of crowd-pleaser and one hell of a ride. " (Read his full review here .)

Evil Dead opens theatrically April 5th. In the meantime, check out the film's trailer to ramp up the excitement even more.
