The Host Clip Shows Aliens In Pursuit And A Highway Chase

With The Host set to arrive in theaters in less than two weeks, we're at the point where Open Road is releasing whole clips from the film to whet fans' appetites for the feature adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's alien invasion novel. The latest clip gives us a glimpse the world Andrew Niccol has brought to life for the film, which is set on earth after aliens have taken over the planet and inhabited most of the human population. As you saw in the clip, not everyone is occupied, but the aliens have their eye on the resistance.

Shiny silver helicopters and fast cars set the scene as we see two guys being pursued by two alien "Souls," whose glowing eyes give away their true nature. Aliens apparently drive the limit, while the remaining humans give themselves away by going faster, which puts them in the sights of the Seekers in the helicopter. I'm not sure what's going on in the above scene, beyond the obvious, but we do get a glimpse of Jake Abel (Ian) and Max Irons (Jared) watching from nearby, which makes me wonder if the two men being pursued were set up as a distraction so that Ian and Jared can do whatever it is they're trying to get away with doing? Or maybe things are exactly as they appear, and we're seeing two guys about to get caught by the aliens or killed in the process. Either way, we might be seeing the start of scene that leads to the exploding truck glimpsed in another preview for the film.

The Host stars Saoirse Ronan, Jake Abel, Max Irons, William Hurt and Diane Kruger. Check out a couple more clips from the film here and here. And if you haven't already, there's still time to read the book before the film arrives in theaters March 29.
