Cillian Murphy Joins Johnny Depp And Morgan Freeman In Transcendence

As Katey noted in her editorial, it's getting difficult to tell Wally Pfister's Transcendence and Christopher Nolan's Interstellar apart. Not only did the director of the former work as the latter's director of photography for years, they've even begun to show a similar taste in actors, with Morgan Freeman - a veteran of Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy - signing on for a part in Transcendence last week. But the connections don't end there.

Latino-Review has learned from a source that Cillian Murphy, who worked with Pfister as a DP on all three of Nolan's Batman movies as well as Inception, has signed on to play one of the three male leads in Transcendence. The Irish actor joins what is already a truly all-star cast that not only includes Freeman, but Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany, Rebecca Hall, and Kate Mara as well. While larger details about the plot are being kept under wraps, it's been said that the movie is about a group of scientists studying the theory of the technological singularity - the moment where technology becomes intelligent and able to think on its own. Newcomer Jack Paglen wrote the script for the film, which is scheduled to start production this month.

Murphy had a pretty decent year in 2012, featured in not only Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, but the UK drama Broken (which is still making its way around the festival circuit) and the Sundance selection Red Lights. He recently worked alongside Jennifer Connelly and Melanie Laurent in writer/director Claudia Llosa's Cry/Fly, which isn't expected out until next year.
