Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead Will Hit Blu-ray And DVD In July

The 2013 retelling of the classic horror film, Evil Dead, did fairly well at the box office, eventually scaring up over $92 million worldwide on a measly $17 million budget. If you are a lover of dark horror films or just want to catch the flick about evil, a curse, and five kids headed into a cabin in the woods, you’ll be able to get your hands on a Blu-ray or DVD copy of the film when it hits shelves on July 16.

If you have ever watched Sam Raimi’s 1981 horror flick of the same name, the basic story outline of the film will seem familiar. Five students (one of which is played by Suburgatory’s Jane Levy) head into an isolated cabin in the woods looking for a good time and end up finding a curse, a gory chamber, and a horrifying adventure. The new version of the film has many of the same people on board, including Sam Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Rob Tapert, who each produce, but the new version is also darker and has better production value. By taking a different tone, director Fede Alvarez turns the Evil Dead into a brand new viewing experience.

Horror flicks aren’t well known for putting together excellent bonus features, but the fanbase interest in the Evil Dead franchise may have contributed to some extra bonus features with this set. While Blu-ray copies will run a little more expensively at $35.99, they will also come with audio commentary and featurettes that won’t be available with the DVD set. DVD copies will come with less features, but are listed for $30.99. You can pre-order a copy over at Amazon.
