The Crow Remake Is Moving Forward, Here Are The Details

A remake of The Crow has been in the works for a number of years now, but a big part of what keeps the film in development hell is the fact that it can't seem to keep a director attached. We've seen many names come and go - but this latest one may wind up being the one that sticks.

Deadline has gotten word that Relativity Media is now looking to hand the keys to The Crow over to Corin Hardy, an up-and-coming director who only recently completed filming his directorial debut (an independent UK horror movie called The Hallow).Interestingly, Hardy found his way to the project in part due to Edgar Wright - who recommended the filmmaker to producer Edward R. Pressman. The plan is to start filming in the spring.

We've been hearing talk of The Crow remake being made since 2008, and in that time we have seen many filmmakers come and go. Originally Stephen Norington was going to make the movie as his follow-up to the notorious The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and while he was attached for years, that ended in 2011. At that time, Relativity turned to 28 Days Later filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, but he wound up departing six months later to work on the Highlander reboot (which is another project that has been trapped in development hell). The studio found F. Javier Gutierrez a few months later, but he has since moved on to make the Ring 3D.

While we have not yet had the chance to see what Corin Hardy can do with a feature film - The Hallow is expected to be released next year - but he has a long history of music video work, having previously made videos for Ed Sheeran, Biffy Clyro, Keane, Paolo Nutini and The Prodigy. He has also earned acclaim for his stop-motion animated short film Butterfly, which you can watch if you click over to Page Two.

The Crow remake is being written by Cliff Dorfman - based on the comics by James O'Barr - and it's expected that the story will once again follow the tale of Eric Draven - a murdered rock musician who is murdered along with his fiancee and comes back one year later to get revenge on the people responsible. If production does actually begin next spring, we can likely expect the finished product to be in theaters sometime in 2016. Will you be looking forward to it?
