Captain America: Civil War Will Feature A Seriously Epic IMAX Sequence

Joe and Anthony Russo's Captain America: Civil War is expected to be a rather special film for the Marvel Cinematic Universe - and not only because it will be absolutely jam-packed with superheroes. It turns out that the tech being used by the production is going to be unique, as it will be the first movie to film with the new IMAX/Arri 2D Camera. And what's more, that tech will be utilized to bring to life an epic sequence of the blockbuster.

News of this behind-the-scenes development has come to us from Variety, which says that Captain America: Civil War will be using the new kind of IMAX digital camera to film what has been described as a 15 minute segment of the movie that is described as to have "some incredible scale to it." Unfortunately, it's not mentioned exactly what will happen during this portion of the movie, but given Marvel Studios' track record, we should all probably expect something rather spectacular.

Without knowing really anything about the narrative of Captain America: Civil War, it is a bit of a challenge to speculate as to what exactly we can expect the special IMAX sequence to be - but the comics from which the movie got its title may be a hint. For example, it's hard to imagine that the 15 minutes follows a larger-than-life sequence where Captain America and Iron Man - along with all of their individual supporters - go head-to-head in the streets of New York. Or maybe the plan is to have the IMAX sequence be a direct adaptation of the inciting incident of Civil War comics, which featured a bunch of inexperienced superheroes going after a team of villains and incidentally causing the death of over 600 civilians (including 60 children).

It's noted that while the upcoming movie is being shot in 2D, it will be going through the 3D post-production process - which all of the Marvel movies have gone through since the release of Captain America: The First Avenger back in 2011. This has had some mixed results in the past, but there have been some very big success - with the company's most recent big screen release, James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy, arguably being their best 3D work to date.

Captain America: Civil War, which is being written by First Avenger and Winter Soldier scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, will be going into production soon, and will be bringing together a whole hell of a lot of key people from the Marvel Cinematic Universe - including the titular hero (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), and even the new Marvel Studios version of Spider-Man (who has not yet been cast). We'll definitely be hearing a lot more updates about the movie in coming months, and get ready for its arrival in theaters on May 6, 2016.
