Captain America: Civil War will bring the popular comic book story arc to life on the big screen, pitting Steve Rogers against Tony Stark in a political battle over the future of all superheroes. But if the latest rumor is correct, then there’s also going to be another epic face-off to look forward to. Forget Batman vs. Superman. How about Hawkeye vs. Black Panther?
Chadwick Boseman is going to make his first appearance as the Wakandan prince in Civil War, and the latest information suggests he’s going to have his own agenda in the film. Whatever that may be, it might put him at odds with the arrow-slinging Avenger. According to Latino Review’s Umberto Gonzalez, there’s going to be "a huge fight" between these two superheroes.
Who do you think will win? It’s difficult to sneak attack Hawkeye, as seen when Scarlet Witch tries to put the mental whammy on him from behind, and the archer has incredible far sight and accuracy with his weapon. He’s also a skilled fighter, having been trained by S.H.I.E.L.D. He even grappled with Black Widow when he was brainwashed in The Avengers. However, we haven’t seen Black Panther in action. As a major player in the comic books with incredible strength and agility, the cat could very well swallow this bird.
In the cinematic universe of Civil War, which will deviate from the comics, Captain America continues to lead his new team of Avengers on missions when an international incident involving Earth’s Mightiest Heroes prompts the governments of the world to regulate all superhuman activity. This causes a rift between the Avengers, both old and new members, and forces them to choose a side: either Cap or Iron Man.
Pretty much all the main heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (except for Thor and Hulk) will return for this film. That includes the previously mentioned Captain America, Iron Man, Hawkeye and Black Panther, as well as Scarlet Witch, War Machine, Falcon, Vision, Black Widow, The Winter Soldier and Ant-Man. Which sides they will take is still unknown, though rumors suggest that Hawkeye will be siding with Captain America, and it makes sense based on where we left him in Age of Ultron. We saw him hanging up his bow and arrows to live a normal life as husband and father in his farmhouse, which was placed off of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s radar at the behest of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). If the film follows the same general premise of comics, then Cap’s camp will be opposing these government efforts. We’ve placed our bets who else will be joining Rogers in his fight against Stark and the government, but we’re eager to learn what Black Panther’s true intentions are and how they will impact the cinematic universe.
Captain America: Civil War is currently filming with a cast of characters that also includes Crossbones, Baron Zemo, Sharon Carter and General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. The film will open in theaters on May 6, 2016.
