What Wolverine's Last Movie Should Be About, According To Ryan Reynolds

It started in March with vague teasing, but Hugh Jackman confirmed back in May that the currently untitled third Wolverine film will be his last time playing the eponymous clawed mutant. Earlier this week, Jackman turned to social media to hear what people want to see for his final outing. The query received waves of suggestions from fans, but Ryan Reynolds also threw his two cents in, and it involves his own character, Deadpool.

On Tuesday, Reynolds posted this Tweet suggesting that Deadpool and Wolverine get together for a Top Gun-style crossover, which would no doubt be insanity and humor at its finest. Take a look!

Deadpool and Wolverine have gotten into a lot of shenanigans in the comics, but to my knowledge, they’ve never tried to become fighter pilots. The logistics of pulling this off might be difficult. We’ve seen that Wolverine is uncomfortable with flying, and while Reynolds has previous experience in the cockpit as Hal Jordan in Green Lantern, Deadpool would probably just crash every plane he jumped into simply so he can create a giant explosion.

The hashtag #volleyball refers the volleyball scene in Top Gun when Maverick and Goose go up against Iceman and Slider. Just watch the actual volleyball scene below and substitute Tom Cruise and Anthony Edwards with Logan and Wade Wilson to get an idea of what this would look like. The big question is who their opponents would be. If we’re going with their enemies, that would mean Sabertooth and Ajax on the other side of the net, though I also think father/son duo Cyclops and Cable would make a good pairing. Oh, and everyone would have to be shirtless, of course.

While Wolverine 3 (as we’ll call it) is less than two years away, there haven’t been any firm details regarding what we can expect from the plot. Hugh Jackman has teased that the film would adapt the great 2008 story Old Man Logan, but his tone at San Diego Comic-Con suggested that he might have been joking. Wolverine will also be seen in X-Men: Apocalypse, and there have been unconfirmed rumors that Wolverine could have a cameo in Deadpool. Well, if they can’t fit a Top Gun homage in Wolverine 3, maybe Deadpool director Tim Miller can get Reynolds and Jackman together in the coming weeks a quick volleyball game tacked on as a post-credits scene for the February blockbuster.

Wolverine 3 will hit theaters on March 3, 2017.
