Captain Marvel Casting: Yet Another Star Throws Her Name Into The Mix

Nearly all of Marvel’s major Phase Three heroes have been cast, but there’s still one notable omission from the bunch: Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel. Despite her solo film being almost three-and-a-half years away, reports keep coming in on who might play what is arguably the most coveted female comic role still to be cast. Many actresses have either been rumored for the role or expressed interest in playing the superheroine, and now we can add Sienna Miller to the list.

While interviewing Miller and her costar Bradley Cooper about their new movie, Burnt, MTV brought up how Miller would make a good Captain Marvel. Although the actress wasn’t familiar with the character, after hearing a little background, she said she would be interested in playing her, provided it was a good script. Following some encouragement from Cooper on how she should play a superhero, she stated:

I’m not someone who read a lot of comics and I don’t really know that world particularly well…but I think it would be quite fun - for my kid as well. She’d like it.

Look-wise, Miller definitely resembles Carol Danvers in most of her comic iterations, and it’s likely that in the coming days some artist out there in the Interwebs will show what she would look like in her most current costume. She also has a diverse amount of credits on her resume, from dramas like American Sniper and Foxcatcher to comedies like Unfinished Business to experience in the world of fantasy action playing The Baroness in G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, so obviously she has the acting chops. Well, Marvel, if Miller happens to catch your eye, just add her to the long list of actresses you’re already mulling over.

Needless to say, the mystery of Captain Marvel’s casting has drawn a lot of attention over the last year. Names like Emily Blunt and Rebecca Ferguson have been tossed out as possible contenders, while actresses like Ronda Rousey and Katheryn Winnick have openly campaigned for the role. Captain Marvel is going be Marvel’s first female-led solo movie (rather than Ant-Man and The Wasp, where Evangeline Lilly is sharing the lead platform with Paul Rudd), so it’s especially important that the studio take enough time to find the right actress rather than rush the process. After all, the actress chosen will likely continue to play the character in Captain Marvel sequels and maybe even a few Avengers movies.

Written by Guardians of the Galaxy’s Nicole Perlman and Inside Out’s Meg LeFauve, Captain Marvel will fly into theaters on March 8, 2019.
