When We Can See The First Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them Trailer

If you happen to be a fan of movie trailers then you must be having a ball right now. Every week it seems as though a different franchise is churning out a new – and downright jaw dropping – trailer to get people excited about their next installments. One franchise that has remained noticeably quiet lately is the Harry Potter universe and the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. However, new reports indicate that will change very soon.

According to Warner Brothers, reports that an "announcement trailer" for Fantastic Beasts will hit the Internet on December 15. The general hypothesis surrounding this date is that it will also be attached to the wide release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which undoubtedly will take theaters by storm on December 18. Let this be a lesson to all of you would be-film marketers out there: if you want people to see a movie trailer, have it precede a Star Wars movie.

Taking place in a seldom-explored avenue of the Harry Potter universe, Fantastic Beasts will be set prior to the adventures of the boy who lived. Instead, the film will showcase newcomer Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as he hunts magical creatures through the streets of New York City.

Despite being only loosely related to the continuity of the Harry Potter franchise, Fantastic Beasts will still firmly establish itself within the universe created by J.K. Rowling, and will reportedly show a particular reverence towards the fourth Harry Potter outing Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Early glimpses at the film look promising; with Daniel Radcliffe even voicing his own disappointment that Eddie Redmayne’s costume design looks far better than anything he got to wear during his days as Harry Potter.

It’s about as good a time as ever for movie trailers. Between Captain America: Civil War, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, and even the X-Men: Apocalypse trailer that hit the web today, the last few weeks have seemingly been defined by an influx of amazing trailers for franchises. While there always exists the risk that Fantastic Beasts could suffer by getting lost in the overcrowded trailer shuffle, it could also present an opportunity to market the film as an alternative to the sheer abundance of superhero films coming out next year. I think we can all agree that a return to the wizard world wouldn’t exactly be a bad thing.
