Watch Robert Downey Jr. Recolor The Eiffel Tower For Captain America: Civil War

The conflict between Team Captain America and Team Iron Man has extended beyond just Captain America: Civil War itself. As the Marvel blockbuster’s press tour gets underway, its actors have been sniping at their opponents on the other side, but Robert Downey Jr has taken all of this to the next level…scratch that, several stories up, by hacking the Eiffel Tower’s lights to show off his team’s colors. Check out the amazing light display below!

Downey attended Captain America: Civil War’s Paris premiere with Don Cheadle, Emily VanCap and co-director Anthony Russo at the Le Grand Rex theatre, but while there, he also paid a visit to the Eiffel Tower, or, as it’s also known, the Iron Lady. Assuming his Tony Stark persona, the actor noted not only how much of a technological triumph the landmark is, but also a place of unity. Because of the turmoil among the Avengers and other Marvel heroes in Captain America: Civil War, Iron Man decided to seek comfort from the Iron Lady, but such a special occasion called for some lighting changes via his special device. Starting with basic black, he then transitioned “her” into the familiar blue glow seen on his arc reactor. After a few more basic colors, “Tony” finally arrived on his favorite red and gold color scheme and challenged Team Captain America to do better.

It’s amazing that Marvel was able to arrange something with the people in charge of the Eiffel Tower to adjust her lighting at night, but since Robert Downey Jr was playing Tony Stark in this video, we’ll pretend his technological skills were responsible. Seriously though, it’s hard to imagine how Chris Evans and the rest of Team Captain America will be able to top this. Maybe they could pull something off with the Statue of Liberty. That would emphasize the patriotism of their heroic and war hero-leader. Obviously a red, white and blue color scheme would be called for no matter what landmark they chose.

While the back-and-forth between both teams is funny in real life, whether it’s quips or recoloring landmarks, it won’t be a humorous affair in Captain America: Civil War. After an incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, the world’s governments decided to pass legislation that puts together a system of accountability towards enhanced individuals. This will result in two side forming: one led by Iron Man, who is in favor of government oversight, and one led by Captain America, who is against regulation. The two teams will eventually clash with one another, and if that wasn’t bad enough, the mysterious Zemo has his own sinister plan in motions behind the scenes.

Captain America: Civil War arrives in U.S. theaters on May 6.
