Space Jam 2 Officially Is Happening With LeBron James, Get The Details

The worst kept secret in Hollywood is that LeBron James has wanted to make a sequel to the Loony Tunes movie Space Jam. Everybody knew that this was a project that Warner Bros. and LeBron were trying to make happen, however every time the topic came up, the response was that it wouldn’t happen anytime soon. Well, while we still don’t know exactly how soon Space Jam 2 will arrive, we do now know it’s coming. The film has a writer and is in talks with its director. Oh, and it has a star. LeBron is on board.

The first rumors of a planned Space Jam 2 go back more than two years. LeBron himself never denied interest in making the movie. Instead, he was one of the people who repeatedly fanned the flames. Now, The Hollywood Reporter says that the project is officially moving forward. Andrew Dodge (Bad Words) and Alfredo Botello are writing the script and Warner Bros. is in talks with Star Trek Beyond director Justin Lin to helm the film. The project is being described as being early in development, so at this point we have no idea when we might actually see it, but people are actively working on Space Jam 2.

The rumors of Space Jam 2 began to grow in frequency last year. Following LeBron James’ positive mentions for his supporting role in Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck, the basketball star signed a production deal with Warner Bros. As this was the same studio who handled the original Space Jam, and owns the Looney Tunes characters, many began to wonder if there was a connection.

As recently as two months ago LeBron James’ producing partner at Springhill Entertainment confirmed that Space Jam 2 was "on the radar" but gave the impression that it was still existing in its stalled state. If that was true then it appears this change has all occurred recently.

The original Space Jam starred Michael Jordan and dealt with aliens who had invaded the world of the Looney Tunes. Bugs Bunny and friends attempt to combat the aliens by competing with them in a game of basketball, for which they enlist Jordan. One can only imagine what scenario a sequel will contrive to put the Daffy Duck and Porky Pig alongside LeBron James, but does it matter? The only real question now is can get they get Bill Murray to cameo again?

So the good news is there will be no more news stories about whether or not there will be a Space Jam 2. Now we can turn our attention to more important matters, like rumors about the plot for Space Jam 2. Game on!
