In the history of the X-Men film franchise, there have been two Professor X’s. Both Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy have played the iconic role, but in the case of McAvoy, something has been missing. Or, rather, something has always been there that really shouldn’t be. James McAvoy has had hair this entire time. As being bald is Charles Xavier’s most famous physical attribute, we expected that James McAvoy would lose his hair at some point. Now Fox has released a video of the hair going away, and the special guest that got to witness it all, Patrick Stewart.
X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer is with James McAvoy when the actor goes to get his head shaved, but that’s not the only person there for the event. Singer actually calls Patrick Stewart, and they do a little FaceTime so that Patrick can watch McAvoy lose his hair. If you’ve been a fan of the X-Men film franchise from the beginning, this is a fairly major moment. One Professor X is taking a major step to look like his predecessor, with that man witnessing it.
We also need to give major props to James McAvoy himself. He actually grabs the electric trimmer and does most of the work, shearing off his hair just like that. He’s much more calm and nonchalant about it than you might expect. Just because you know you need to do it, doesn’t mean it’s no big deal.
While James McAvoy and Patrick Stewart shared screen time in the time traveling X-Men: Days of Future Past, the current Professor X says that shaving his head was the point at which he really felt like the torch was being passed to him. We have to say, he doesn’t look bad with a shaved head. Not everybody can pull off that look. He's probably cold now, though.
