The Four Marvel Movies That Have Joined The Billion-Dollar Club At The Box Office

Captain America: Civil War has been doing gangbusters at the box office since its release, and now the film has reached a milestone in just 24 days. As of today, the film has earned the coveted blockbuster goal of a total $1 billion gross. The Captain America threequel has now joined the Billion-Dollar Club, an exclusive group that consists of 24 other movies. This makes it the fourth movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to hit the billion-bench mark, so it looks like this whole "shared universe" thing is really working out.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the four highest grossing MCU movies are as follows:

The Avengers ($1.51 billion)Age of Ultron ($1.41 billion)Iron Man 3 ($1.22 billion)Captain America: Civil War ($1 billion and counting)

These are the most successful franchises in the MCU right now. Iron Man has always been one of the most popular characters, so it’s no surprise to see his latest (and potentially not the last) solo film in the mix. The Avengers franchise is living proof that a shared universe has massive potential, and as such, currently reigns king. Avengers: Age of Ultron, though not quite living up to expectations, still made an impressive haul at the box office. Finally, Civil War still has some time left in theaters, so its numbers will likely climb higher as the week goes on, as X-Men: Apocalypse attempts to dethrone it.

In addition to joining the Billion-Dollar Club, Captain America: Civil War is also now the highest grossing movie of 2016, ousting fellow Disney film, Zootopia. 2017 is still a long ways off, so only time will tell if Cap can take home the gold. It could end up being the highest grossing film of the summer, though, with X-Men: Apocalypse and potentially Finding Dory as some of its main competitors. And let's not forget about Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, quietly waiting in the shadow of the Death Star until December.

At the end of the day, Disney is the real winner here. Civil War, Zootopia, and The Jungle Book are three of the top four highest grossing films of the year (with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in the number three spot) and they’ve received good critical reception. Of the 25 films in the Billion-Dollar Club, 10 of them are Disney films, so it looks like the Mouse House is in for a very good summer.

Captain: America: Civil War is still in theaters, but judging by its box office, you’ve probably already seen it once or twice. Do you think it’ll stay on the top for the year or do you think something else has the potential to take the title belt?
