Why The Friday The 13th Reboot Might Be Even Better Than We Expected

If there’s one thing we can always rely on Hollywood for, it’s to reboot a famed horror franchise. Over the years we’ve seen everything from Halloween to Dawn of the Dead get revivals of their very own. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it most certainly does not. With a long-awaited reboot of the slasher classic Friday the 13th currently in the works, we've just learned that the creative prestige behind the project might just make it one of the best horror reboots to date.

During a recent interview with This Is Infamous, Friday the 13th producer Brad Fuller explained that the film has an ace up its sleeve in the form of Prisoners screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski. Fuller explained why Guzikowski was such a good pick in the following statement:

We have a great writer – Aaron Guzikowski is writing the script. Aaron wrote Prisoners. He’s a better writer than we deserve for this franchise. He’s fantastic. The script that he has come up with is really great, and we got it a couple weeks ago. We gave our notes to Aaron, the studio gave their notes to Aaron, and we’re waiting for the script to come back.

It’s not often that a producer will speak so candidly about an upcoming project. That being said, he has a serious point: there’s no reason that Friday the 13th should have a screenwriter as talented as Aaron Guzikowski. Most reboots of slasher movies, or any horror film for that matter, don’t put much thought into crafting a decent script, and instead opt to simply rehash the old story whilst upping the gore and nudity. While this second Friday the 13th reboot might still do that, we rest easy knowing that the folks behind it have at least endeavored to craft a solid script and story.

Aaron Guzikowski has proven himself in recent years as an incredibly talented screenwriter. He has two feature films to his name, Contraband and Prisoners – the latter of which proved to be one of the best movies of 2013. Although this reboot represents his first legitimate foray into the world of horror, he has more than proven that he has the chops to craft an incredibly dark, thrilling script.

With a screenwriter like Aaron Guzikowski working behind the scenes, we feel confident that the upcoming Friday the 13th reboot will bring the slasher genre back to its gory glory days. I don’t know about you, but I am seriously looking forward to heading back to Camp Crystal Lake in order to watch Jason Voorhees eviscerate some more horny camp counselors.

We will bring you any and all details regarding Friday the 13th as they become available to us. The long-awaited horror reboot will slash its way into theaters on January 13 of next year.
