'N Sync Will Likely Reunite At MTV Video Music Awards

‘N Sync might have said Bye Bye Bye following a tribute to the Bee Gees at the 2003 Grammy Awards, but that doesn’t mean they’re done for good. Rumors are currently flying that members of the popular boyband may take the stage together at the Video Music Awards on August 25.
The rumblings were first reported by The New York Post. The outlet claims J.C. Chasez, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick and Lance Bass all sat in the VIP section of Timberlake and Jay-Z’s recent concert in Miami (the one Lebron James took a police escort to) and are currently putting the finishing touches on a routine to bust out for Sunday night’s show. US Weekly followed up and spoke to some sources close to the action, and they reportedly confirmed the details are being hashed out and the whole thing will probably come together.
Over the past few years, ‘N Sync’s longtime rivals The Backstreet Boys and 98 Degrees have both gotten the gang back together. Given Timberlake’s incredible success, however, he’s resisted the urge to get the guys back together. None of them have expressed any issue with that decision, but from a purely monetary standpoint, not putting on a tour and busting out “Tearing Up My Heart” has left a lot of potential revenue on the table. Maybe this performance will lead everyone involved to commit to a single tour. Maybe it will be a one-off gig for the fans. There’s really no way to know at this point. My only hope is whoever is pulling the strings doesn’t get any less excited now that the reunion has become a bit less of a surprise.
I highly doubt MTV or any of the ‘N Sync guys will come out to verify the surprise reunion is happening, but if talks go south or someone gets skittish, I’m pretty confident at least one person involved will publically say they’re not performing. After all, there’s no worse scenario than millions of nostalgic ‘N Sync fans tuning in to see the guys bust a move and instead getting nothing more than Timberlake merely accepting the Michael Jackson Vanguard Video Award. Once expectations have been raised, a good performer/ athlete/ academic/ chef/ prostitute/ surgeon/ paleontologist needs to deliver. No doubt JT is well aware of that too.
People often remember ‘N Sync as merely a group for middle school girls, but near the end of their run, the guys actually churned out some songs that were pretty damn enjoyable for everyone. Here’s “It’s Gonna Be Me”…
