Gabby Douglas Signs Deal To Write A Memoir

Gabby Douglas might only be sixteen-years-old, but after bringing home two gold medals at the London Olympics, she has a book’s worth of memories to share. At least that’s what HarperCollins is betting on. The large publishing house announced this morning that it has signed an agreement with the Olympian to publish her very first memoir.

The book will be entitled Grace, Gold and Glory, My Leap of Faith, and if all goes according to plan, it will be available for purchase in December. According to People, the text will cover not only the ultimate triumph but also the long road it took to get to London. In order to take her training to a new level, Douglas made the difficult decision to leave her family back in Virginia to be around better coaches and competitors in Iowa. It was just one of many bumps in the road along the way that wound up paying off in glory, publicity and now, this book deal.

There are few sporting events in the world that carry more pressure than the women’s all-around gymnastics Olympic final. Not only is it one of the most watched events of the Summer Games, it also happens very slowly—like a chess match. A large mistake in any of the events sabotages one’s chances, making the poor girl wait another four years, if she’s lucky enough to make the team, for another chance. Gabby maximized her moment, and she deserves every single perk that comes with it.

Here’s to hoping this book sells plenty of copies and inspires lots of little kids.
