One Track Sunday: Alicia Keys Proves She's A Girl On Fire

Alicia Keys is a really big fan of debuting songs on momentous occasions. At this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, the singer debuted “Girl on Fire,” a song which she performed with Nicki Minaj. While Minaj is present on a verse in the remix of the song, the original version is all powerhouse vocals, and the recently created music video for the track really focuses on that aspect. "Girl on Fire" also notes the singer’s classic beauty as she sings about her experiences as a mother and a career woman.

Weirdly, half of the video for “Girl on Fire” features an emboldened, overly sexual version of the singer, lounging against walls and near windows (I would kill for that maroon wallpaper, by the way). Oddly enough, the other half features her as a domestic worker, cleaning, or as a caretaker of the elderly and the young. That can-do attitude permeates the latter half of the track with no solution, but Keys’ voice is so smooth, it almost doesn’t matter.

“Girl on Fire” is from Keys’ upcoming fifth studio album, which will also be titled Girl on Fire. The track is the lead single off of the album, but you can check out the full tracklist over at Rap-up. Girl on Fire will be released on November 27, 2012.
