STP Frontman Scott Weiland Says He Can't Be Fired Because He Started The Band

The other three members of Stone Temple Pilots may have terminated lead singer Scott Weiland, but from his perspective, that’s not even possibly since he’s a fundamental part of the band. If you take it from him, he founded the group, co-wrote most of the songs they’re known for and has always been the frontman; therefore, according to his logic, the band ceases to exist without his involvement.

Here’s what Weiland told MTV News about his now ex-bandmates’ termination announcement…

"I learned of my supposed 'termination' from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press. Not sure how I can be 'terminated' from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that's something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I'm looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday."

Weiland has had more than his share of problems over the years. In fact, he’s always seemed like a horrible band member. I’m not surprised in the slightest that the other guys in the group aren’t pumped about continuing to work with him, but if they want to go in that direction, they should hire a new singer and make it a completely separate project. There’s really no point in doing Stone Temple Pilots without Weiland.

The last thing anyone involved wants to do is waste years in court arguing over who owns the naming rights. Hopefully, all involved wise up and agree that no one should use the name unless they can all come back together and make it work in the future.
