One Track Sunday: Cat Power Takes On Manhattan

If there’s anything the “Manhattan” music video tells us, it’s that Cat Power should really not be given the creative license to dance by herself in public spaces, which happens to be more unsettling than listening to Jillian Michaels talk between reps on an exercise tape. Other than that, the “Manhattan” video is pretty tops, and should be a great track (or video) to throw on when relaxing during the calmer hours making up the weekend.

For the most part, the “Manhattan” video takes a look at early morning life in New York City. There are strange characters on the subway and more trashbags than signs of life on the streets. As a Los Angeles resident, the places in the video don’t exactly offer a familiar feeling to me, but there is a stateliness and peacefulness to the area that suits the music nicely. The Manhattan video was directed by Greg Hunt and is the second single off the veteran artist’s newest album, Sun.

This week has been a big week for music. We’ve already covered such heavy hitters as Psy’s bizarre new single, “Gentlemen,” Justin Bieber’s “All Around the World” video, and Demi Lovato’s “Heart Attack” single. We’ll keep you posted as some more music for springtime pops up.
