Dunkin' Donuts Staying Open In Boston To Give Free Product To Emergency Responders

Amidst the chaos of the manhunt for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Police Department asked all non-emergency personnel to stay inside their homes today and for all Boston area businesses to stay closed. The citizens who ventured out in the Watertown area today, however, discovered one chain still open: Dunkin’ Donuts.

After receiving the message to close down, four local Dunkin’ Donuts reportedly banded together and phoned the police, asking if they could continue churning out donuts and coffee for police and other first responders. After some consideration, they were given the green light, and any emergency responders that want it are now being given free coffee and donuts to help keep their adrenaline up.

When people talk about a city coming together after a tragedy, this is exactly the type of thing they’re talking about. The first responders are obviously the most obvious example of heroism, but beyond that, there have been thousands and thousands of citizens that have gone above and beyond to help the city heal. Whether it’s carrying people to safety, offering places to stay or even singing their hearts out, Boston residents have responded. Thus, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Dunkin Donuts (founded 10 minutes from Boston) is no exception.

Way to go, Dunkin’ Donuts, and way to go Boston. The world has been watching, and residents have handled themselves with courage and poise.
