Is Carrie Underwood The Right Choice For Sunday Night Football Intro?

If you need a reminder as to what sport is on top of the heap in the United States, look no further than how many headlines this story about a pregame show is generating. Just weeks after Faith Hill announced she would no longer do the song that begins Sunday Night Football each week, NBC announced today that it has tapped popular country music star Carrie Underwood to carry the torch forward.

According to USA Today, Underwood was the only singer the network looked at, which worked out well since she gave an uninhibited yes almost immediately. Here’s a look at the former American Idol winner’s official statement on the matter…

"I am thrilled to be a part of NBC's Sunday Night Football and am so honored they asked me. I have always loved football season, and it is so exciting to now become part of it every Sunday night!"

Underwood may be one of the biggest stars in the world of country music, but she’s always prided herself on being a pretty all-American girl. She married an athlete, does her own laundry and is very open about her believe in God. Consequently, she seems like an extremely safe choice that won’t wind up embarrassing the network. That being said, the safe choice isn’t necessarily the right choice. NBC could have gone edgy. They could have gone a less traditional route, but instead, they picked the conservative approach.
