Allegiant U.K. Cover Shows Tris Prepared To Make Her Final Choice

Allegiant

They say you can't judge a book by its cover, but when we're anticipating the next book in a series, the cover is one of the few things we have to go on. Last week, we got our first look at the cover for the U.S. publication of Allegiant, the third book in Veronica Roth's popular young adult trilogy Divergent. Mirroring the previous two books in terms of the style of the cover, the book revealed a swirling circle of water in the center. The U.K. cover has arrived and shows us the story's lead character, her back to us as she looks out into the unknown. The silhouetted view of the lead character follows the theme set by the U.K. publications of the first two books, but the hue sets a stark contrast to the reddish look of the U.S. cover.

The tagline, which is "One Choice Will Define You," has also been changed to take a more direct approach on the story's protagonist, reading, "She Must Make Her Final Choice." For Tris Prior, that choice may be whether or not she's willing to leave Chicago behind to venture out into the world beyond the walls. The cover also reveals a set of floating white feathers. Perhaps they're symbolic of Tris being ready to spread her wings and fly. From a more literal approach, they may address her fears. Tris did tackle with some birds in her fear landscape back in the first novel, though those were crows, if I recall correctly.

Floating feathers aside, I like the heroic look of the cover and the horizon in the distance. It certainly sets an exciting tone for the final book in the series.

For U.K. fans of the book (or those who want a copy of the U.K. publication), Allegiant is available for pre-order at Amazon.co.uk. Publication date is the same as the U.S. release: October 22, 2013.
