Lily Tomlin Marries Girlfriend Of 42 Years Jane Wagner

We typically think of weddings as taking place just as relationships are starting to bloom, but thanks to recent law changes finally allowing for gay marriage in certain states, the legal wrangling has laid the groundwork for a whole host of ceremonies that celebrate mature love affairs—like the one between Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner.

The comedienne met her girlfriend forty-two-years ago. They wrote together from several Emmy winning live action network variety shows and they’ve been together ever since. In theory, they could have simply walked down the same path for the rest of their lives without wasting time to get a slip of paper, but seriously, if given the choice, who wouldn’t want to celebrate their love with a big ass party for friends and family? So, on New Year’s Eve, Tomlin and Wagner walked down the aisle and exchanged their I-dos.

Details are still a little fuzzy at this point, but Tomlin did speak on the record to E! News about the extravaganza during the lead-up.

"You don't really need to get married, but marriage is awfully nice. Everybody I know who got married, they say it really makes a difference. They feel very, very happy about it."

People always talk about how no one in Hollywood ever stays together, but in truth, there are a whole lot of couples like Tomlin and Wagner who quietly love each other for decades without making a big fuss about it. In fact, it’s typically the couples who make a big show about their togetherness that often have trouble staying together. Tomlin and Wagner have always found a balance between their careers and professional matters, and they’ve never felt the need to hit up the town and act a fool on a regular basis.

Fortunately for them, however, they were at least able to take one day in Los Angeles to celebrate their love via private ceremony. Here’s to hoping it was everything they could have imagined.
