What's Going On With Kim Kardashian Having A Third Baby

Kim Kardashian behind the scenes on Keeping Up With The Kardashians

Last week, Kim Kardashian announced on Keeping Up with the Kardashians that she wanted to get pregnant and have a third child with her husband, rapper Kanye West. However, more recent news has indicated that Kardashian's plans have changed after a medical procedure left her unable to have a third pregnancy. Throughout the episode, Kardashian openly discussed surrogacy as an alternative.

Thanks to the show, we know Kim Kardashian visited the hospital for surgery to repair her uterus. Unfortunately, the surgery did not end well, and the doctor later revealed that there were complications. Kardashian said one difficulty involved her bladder, and the doctors had to put in a catheter. After the traumatic experience, Kardashian admitted she felt ready to give up on the idea of a third pregnancy but not a third child. Here's what she told her family about her new thoughts on surrogacy.

I'm definitely leaning more toward 'I want to try [surrogacy].' After talking to Kanye, I think that I always knew that surrogacy was an option, but I didn't think it was that realistic of an option. Now, I feel like that's my reality. I feel like surrogacy really is the only other option for me.

There are some somber turns to this plot twist. Kim Kardashian has expressed that if she happened to pass away at a young age, she would feel all right knowing her children do have a support system. Later, Kardashian mentioned that her sense of urgency to have children became heightened after she was attacked and robbed at gunpoint during Paris Fashion Week last October. It sounds like Kardashian (naturally) is still struggling with the trauma of that incident, so it could be helpful for her to continue receiving therapeutic support. Hopefully, if Kardashian and Kanye West add a third little one to the family via surrogacy, the reality-show star will feel a renewed sense of joy.

Fans of the E! show are sure to remember Kim Kardashian's terrifying first two pregnancies. During Kardashian's first pregnancy with her daughter, North West, Kardashian had preeclampsia and placenta accreta, two conditions that made the high-risk pregnancy dangerous for both mother and child. Those problems seemed to reappear during Kardashian's second pregnancy with her son, Saint West. Nevertheless, Kim Kardashian communicated to her family that she wants to have another child, and she elucidated on her desire to give her children siblings. The 36-year-old celebrity explained that she would love nothing more than to grow her family with Kanye West and continue building a haven at home.

Surrogacy is becoming a realistic option for more and more people thanks to advancements in technology. While some loving parents might not give surrogacy the time of day because of supposed stigmas attached to it, other hopeful parents might not even know that the option is out there for them. So, it is heartening to see big-name celebrities like Kim Kardashian putting a face to surrogacy as a real and responsible option. Elementary star Lucy Liu is another star who welcomed her son via surrogacy last year. Katey Sagal, Jimmy Fallon, Tyra Banks, Elton John, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, and Ricky Martin all turned to surrogacy to help their respective families grow.

We wish Kim Kardashian and Kanye West all the love and luck in the world as they pursue their third child. Whether or not the plan changes, those two adorable children, North and Saint, will still be there. And of course, we will still be here to give you all of the details.
