48 Days For 24 Star Kiefer

Emmy-winning actor Kiefer Sutherland pleaded no contest to one count of DUI and was sentenced to 48 days in jail.

The New York Daily News reports that Sutherland, who plays hero Jack Bauer on the FOX hit series 24, must serve at least 18 days beginning December 21. This covers his parole violation terms from an earlier 2004 DUI conviction. After that, he must serve another 30 days of real jail-time by July. No alcohol-monitoring bracelet, or Paris Hilton-esque crybaby reprieves.

“He has to serve the time… no credit for overcrowding,” said Frank Mateljan, spokesman for Los Angeles city prosecutor Rocky Delgadillo. Delgadillo’s office had been sideswiped earlier this year for their nearly futile attempts to enforce a jail sentence on celebutard Paris Hilton, who was released early, but soon returned to prison with conditions that over-accommodated the offender.

Now a two-time loser as a convicted drunk driver, Sutherland was busted last month after leaving a party in West Hollywood, making an illegal U-turn. The actor has to complete an 18-month alcohol program and receive therapy. Said the actor about the whole stupid mess, “ I’m very disappointed in myself for the poor judgment I exhibited.”
