49er Chris Culliver In Trouble Again, This Time Over Attitude Toward Women

A few months after going on a hateful rant about his unwillingness to accept any teammates that might come out of the closet, San Francisco 49er Chris Culliver is in hot water again, this time for comments he made about women. The cornerback was having a textual conversation with one of his friends about how “hoes be trippin” when he bizarrely decided to post it to social media. The backlash was almost instantaneous. He quickly pulled it down, but by then, the damage was already done.

Here’s the actual conversation, as per TMZ

”Culliver's friend: This bitch talkin bout how I can take her on a nice dat ... yeah my car ... bitch you got a whole dude ... live in work you trippin.Culliver: Lol yeah hoes be thinking more then they are. Boy I tell youCulliver's friend: Right these hoes be trippin”

If nothing else, this is an indication of someone who fundamentally just doesn’t get it. Given all the meetings he took with gay leaders and all the sensitivity classes he went to and all the progress he claimed, there’s no way Culliver would intentionally cause another issue. Clearly, he didn’t think there was anything wrong with talking about women like this. That language is obviously completely ingrained in the way he speaks, and I’m sure there are a ton of other people in professional sports like that too.

Over the past few years, professional sports leagues have done quite a bit to try and be seen as more inclusive and to weed out troubling perspectives toward the gay community. Obviously, some of that needs to be addressed as to how professional players relate to women too. Here’s to hoping that change happens sooner rather than later.
