There's an appeal to Bright Eyes I just don’t get. I understand that Conor Oberst, the lead singer, is a talented musician and an interesting songwriter, but he never caught my attention. Maybe he draws in the people who rely on his music for emotional stability? Or maybe his audience needs him to take them on an “emotional journey.” I dated a girl in high school who was obsessed with Oberst and gang. I can only assume all his fans have the same delusional response to his overly melodramatic tunes. Nonetheless, the group has a lot of supporters and this requires a tour every once in a while. Their most recent supporting dates for The People’s Key had amazing feedback, coupled with a massive turnout to most of the shows. Now Bright Eyes is bringing their dramatic folk punk to the east coast for a slew of dates:

Dr. Dog, The Mountain Goats and Kurt Vile? That’s an amazing list of supporting acts. As that might be enough of a reason for me to go see them in Orlando, those groups will not be joining them in the sunshine state. So count me out. Starting off by making an appearance on September 16th at the Austin City Limits festival, the group will go onto some west coast dates as well, showing off their talents in California, Texas and New Mexico. No matter how you feel about Bright Eyes though, they sure know how to pull a crowd. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
