Chalk this one up to bizarre taste. Brilliant actress Zooey Deschanel has gone off and gotten engaged to Hunter Burgan, a musician perhaps best known for his current work with emo punk mainstays AFI. Deschanel, of course, has been wooing audience for almost a decade now after she appeared as a twenty year old in Cameron Crowe’s underrated Almost Famous. Anyone who saw Elf knows she’s a pretty damn good musician in her own right, as well.

According to In Touch Weekly, Burgan popped the question two weekends ago and Deschanel said yes. There’s nothing quite like coming home for the holidays engaged. The couple have reportedly been together less than a year. A source close to the situation said, “she is so excited”, which strikes me as a little like saying, “Michael Jackson was excited after Thriller sold forty million copies.”

So, here’s to the newly engaged couple. May they share a love like winter.
