Does The Voice Have Better Judges Than Idol, X Factor?
Late last year, the X Factor premiered to mediocre ratings. As the season went on, the chatter surrounding the reality competition show picked up a bit, but the viewers never really got on board. In the end, it was enough for another go around but not enough to seriously compete with American Idol. It’s a hard lesson that was learned several months earlier by producers of The Voice. The NBC program too generated its share of publicity, but the total viewers were also a fraction of the American Idol juggernaut. Now the show is set to premiere its second season on February 5th, and to help increase interest, they’ve added a few familiar faces.
The four principal judges from the first season, Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine, are all returning, and they’re bringing with them a whole host of associates including Kelly Clarkson, Ne-Yo, Alanis Morissette, Lionel Richie and Jewel. It’s unlikely the extra star power will be enough to overtake Idol, but it does raise an interesting question. Does The Voice now boost the most credible collection of judges on television? Do they really know more than those on American Idol and X Factor?
The American Idol line-up has switched numerous times throughout its run, but Randy Jackson has remained the one constant. This season, just like last, he’ll be joined by Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez. There’s no word yet on who might make the cut next season for X Factor, but the last time around, the show offered up Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, Paula Abdul and LA Reid.
