Fiona Apple Facing Felony Hash Charges In Texas
Authorities in Hollywood might not go out of their way to bust residents for marijuana use, but their counterparts in Sierra Blanca certainly do. Snoop Dogg, Armie Hammer, Willie Nelson and several others have been booked in the small West Texas town over the past few years, and now, Fiona Apple can add her name to that unfortunate list.
The incident in question occurred yesterday after her tour bus stopped at a border checkpoint. Agents brought dogs aboard to do a quick sweep, and the canines reportedly sniffed out small stashes of marijuana and hash. According to E! News, the singer stepped up and told authorities the banned substances were hers, and she was promptly arrested, transferred to jail and charged with possession. You can take a look at the black and white greatness of her mugshot below…
Marijuana is only a misdemeanor charge in Texas, but unfortunately for Apple, hash is actually a felony. Given she didn’t have very much on her and doesn’t have a long history of violating the law, its possible authorities will work out a deal with her, but we likely won’t know their intentions for at least a few weeks. In the meantime, Apple is free on $10,000 bail and is probably crossing her fingers she doesn't lose the right to vote.
The singer has openly admitted she enjoys the occasional pot smoke before, and given she’s thirty-five and makes music for people who aren’t exactly inside the box, it’s hard to imagine this will have any real effect on her career, save the one concert in Austin she was forced to cancel. We'll keep you updated as her case winds its way through the legal system.
