Britney Spears fans all around the globe are in great spirits today after hearing five never before heard songs from the pop princess. The music was leaked sporadically over the past 24 hours, and though no one is sure of the exact source, we're quite thankful for the new Britney tracks. Though leaks are usually bad news for an artist, most of these songs were recorded years ago and then shelved, so there really seems no harm in enjoying them. Merry Britmas, everyone!

In my opinion, the leaks are worth listening to whether you are a Spears fan or not. If you like to dance, you'll love "911", "Dangerous", "Rock Star", and my favorite, "Abroad." With lots of sexy lyrics over heavy beats, they're tons of fun and will surely be blasted at clubs around the world tonight. There's no word on why these songs are coming out at this particular time, though many are speculating that it has something to do with Britney's upcoming remix album, which will be released later this year. There are also a few whispers that it has something to do with RCA Records shutting down its subsidiary companies Arista, J, and Jive Records; the latter of which Spears has been with since 1998. Whatever the reason, I'm thrilled to have new Britney songs, especially ones I enjoy as much as these.

The most interesting track of the bunch is a ballad titled "Every Day", which was co-written by Spears while she was prepping for her big comeback in 2008. It tells the story of a girl who is heartbroken, yet still has hope. There's none of Britney's trademark auto tune, and you can hear that she is singing from the heart. I love it and wish she would feature songs like this on her albums. Considering what she has been through, it doesn't surprise me that she likes to keep her music light-- the only thing even close to a ballad on her latest album Femme Fatale, "Criminal", is hardly one at all. In "Criminal", Spears sings of her love for a guy she knows is bad for her, yet she still can't stay away. "Every Day" is much deeper and seems to reflect her real life struggles. Check out a sample of the lyrics below:
Footsteps in the rain, memories wash away Beyond the headlight glare, it's kind of dark out there And everywhere I've been, it's hard to find a friend I've got no alibis for the state I'm in Everybody needs, needs a place to go God knows I have seen it's a twisting, winding road

You can listen to "Every Day" here, and don't forget to check out "Abroad", "Dangerous", "911", and "Rock Star" as well.
