The Flaming Lips are by far one of the weirdest groups out there, but are also one of the most prolific as well. Not only has the group worked on a collaboration with Neon Indian, they also brought together one of the finest interpretations of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon with Stardeath and White Dwarfs, featuring Henry Rollins and Peaches. They also released Embryonic, making 2009 a busy year. Even though it takes quite a bit of time to get accustomed to their oddly melodic and psychedelic sound, once you understand the vision they want to give, it’s an otherworldly experience. Continuing with their prolific work style, the group has finished up their first collaborative EP with Lightning Bolt.

The album will feature 2 tracks, with each band performing different versions of each song, making for a total of four songs on the record. Those lucky enough to be in Boston on July 26th will be able to catch Wayne Coyne at Newbury Comics’ in Harvard Square, where he will have four copies of the EP available. Coyne being the gracious front man he is, will also be signing albums and tacking pictures with fans at the appearance. The track listing for this EP will be as follows:

The Flaming Lips & Lightning Bolt 12 Inch:
Side 1
The Flaming Lips w/ Lightning Bolt
01. I’m Working at NASA on Acid
02. I Want to Get High But I Don’t Want Brain Damage
Side 2
Lightning Bolt w/ The Flaming Lips
03. NASA’s Final Acid Bath
04. I Want To Get Damaged But I Won’t Say Hi

The album is a unique concept which I’m excited to endure. I say “endure” because with the latest video courtesy of Coyne, he shows off the song “I Want To Get High But I Don’t Want Brain Damage,” that implies this record will be quite the unique listen. The song and video is like a bad acid trip that leaves the audience feeling strange. The beginning of this video also features Wayne explaining his trip to Boston and the “gummy fetuses” and “gummy brains” he’ll bring along on the journey. I implore you to check it out, but I also warn you… It is really weird. But, would you want anything else from Wayne Coyne? Of course not.
